About the Project

The Raritan River Bridge Replacement Project.  This large scale, $250+ million project used over 65,000 cubic yards of concrete. The numerous structures using concrete included drilled shafts up to 235 feet deep utilizing self-consolidating concrete , pier caps, abutments, duct bank, retaining walls, catenary pole foundations, and continuous flight augured piles. Two main span piers incorporated nearly 7500 yards of a special tri-blend mix designed for ease of placement and to reduce the heat of hydration. Thermal monitoring using embedded thermocouples was used to track the internal temperature of the mass concrete pours with the intent of mitigating cracking.
